SimScale Launches AI Agent for Simulation in PTC Onshape

The agent prepares geometry, meshes models and runs CFD, FEA, thermal and electromagnetic analyses, with engineers able to review and override settings.

MUNICH, Germany, Sep 16, 2026 – SimScale’s Engineering AI Agent lets engineers set up, run and interpret simulations from a single prompt within PTC’s Onshape cloud-native CAD and product data management platform. The agent prepares CAD geometry and returns results in engineering language without requiring users to leave their design environment.

The agent accepts geometry that has not been prepared for simulation, selects applicable physics, generates a mesh and chooses boundary conditions before running an analysis. Engineers can intervene at any stage to adjust settings, override boundary conditions or review assumptions, then return control to the agent.

The integration draws on SimScale’s computational fluid dynamics (CFD), finite element analysis (FEA), thermal and electromagnetic simulation capabilities. It handles setup tasks that require simulation expertise. Announced at IMTS 2026 in Chicago, the integration is available through the Onshape app store.

Wilde added: “We built the Engineering AI Agent so that guess doesn’t have to happen. It’s not that we made a lighter version of SimScale fit inside Onshape, it’s that we put a reasoning agent in front of the same physics platform our validation customers already trust, so it can make the calls a specialist used to make: how to set the model up, what to mesh, what to run. That’s what makes it usable by every design engineer on day one, not just the ones who already know simulation.”

The agent runs on the SimScale Agent API, which automatically provisions computing resources and maintains an auditable record of each run. Customer data remains subject to existing governance controls.

SimScale describes the Onshape integration as the first deployment in a broader plan to place agents within tools engineers use to make design decisions.
