
MUNICH, Germany, Sep 3, 2026 – SunCubes is deploying SimScale’s Engineering AI tools to design laser-based systems that recharge drones and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) during flight or at remote stations without physical contact. SunCubes will use cloud simulation to evaluate the thermal, structural and aerodynamic performance of its aircraft systems and wireless energy-transfer hardware.
SunCubes engineers will run simulations before building physical prototypes. The results will support the design and validation of drone architectures, charging equipment and related components.

Battery capacity and powertrain performance limit the operating range of commercial and industrial drones. Research into drone-based energy infrastructure monitoring also identifies range as a limitation for pipeline inspections and remote assets such as offshore wind turbines.
Agricultural operators face similar constraints when deploying drones across farms where workers may need to replace batteries during operations. A market estimate cited by SunCubes projects that the drone and UAV sector will grow from $24.4 billion in 2025 to $52.1 billion in 2033. The company is developing its charging systems for energy, infrastructure, agriculture, logistics, construction and security applications.
