BOCA RATON, FL, Mar 12, 2026 – Telit Cinterion has partnered with Airfide Networks to integrate advanced localization and sensing capabilities to platforms using the FN990B40 5G data card. The FN990B40 is Telit Cinterion’s next-generation 5G sub-6 module designed for high-performance broadband connectivity. It supports 5G New Radio (NR) with Long-Term Evolution (LTE), along with Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) and an integrated Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). The data card delivers broadband connectivity for FWA, enterprise gateways, and repeater applications.
Airfide integrates ultra-wideband (UWB) fine ranging and 60 gigahertz (GHz) millimeter-wave (mmWave) radar into 5G-powered gateways and repeaters. It also brings these capabilities to customer premises equipment (CPE). The approach adds sensing and localization functions to 5G infrastructure.
Precision Localization, Natively Integrated with 5G
Airfide’s FiRa-compliant UWB technology adds high-accuracy indoor positioning to FN990B40-powered 5G platforms. The technology targets warehouses and enterprise campuses that require asset visibility and location tracking. Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) technology can be limited by range and device density. UWB supports fine-resolution tracking of assets and personnel across large facilities.
OEMs can embed geofencing and asset tracking functions within 5G infrastructure. This integration reduces system complexity and supports faster deployment. Airfide also provides reference hardware, software, and cloud control to support OEM integration.
60 GHz Radar Brings Real-Time Intelligence to 5G CPE
Airfide’s 60 GHz mmWave radar uses 4 GHz of unlicensed spectrum to support high-resolution sensing. The design combines four receivers and three transmitters to achieve sub-centimeter sensing precision. Integrated into FN990B40-based platforms, the radar supports:
- Real-time occupancy detection
- People and object tracking
- Live health monitoring, including heart rate and pulse
- Fall detection for older adult care
The camera-free, anonymous sensing approach fits privacy-sensitive places like health care facilities and public venues.
Operators in markets such as Japan are evaluating the architecture for 5G repeater deployments. The design allows sensing and analytics functions to operate on existing 5G infrastructure.
Expanding what 5G can Deliver
Growth in 5G FWA is shifting focus from peak speeds toward edge intelligence. The FN990B40 provides sub-6 5G connectivity and GNSS support. Paired with Airfide’s localization and sensing technologies, the platform allows OEMs to integrate enterprise IoT solutions into 5G infrastructure.
“5G is no longer just about faster broadband,” said Venkat Kalkunte of Airfide Networks. “We’ve embedded our UWB and mmWave radar technologies into platforms powered by Telit Cinterion’s FN990B40. This enables OEMs and operators to deploy intelligent, high-precision IoT services directly within their 5G infrastructure.”
“The FN990B40 was designed to power advanced 5G FWA and enterprise applications,” said Neset Yalcinkaya, president of IoT hardware at Telit Cinterion. “This partnership demonstrates how sub-6 5G data card platforms can serve as the foundation for localization, sensing and new monetization opportunities worldwide.”
