MUNICH, Germany, Feb 24, 2026 – thyssenkrupp’s Automotive division opened a new plant in Allershausen, expanding its production network in Germany. The facility assembles front and rear axles for new BMW vehicle generations. The move strengthens the company’s manufacturing and logistics footprint in the automotive market. It also supports future BMW platform programs with axle assembly operations. Bavarian Minister President Dr. Markus Söder attended the opening ceremony.

Dr. Markus Söder, Bavarian Prime Minister said: “Bavaria is car country – and that’s how it should stay. So it was a great pleasure to attend the opening of thyssenkrupp Automotive Technology’s new axle assembly plant in Allershausen near Munich together with Minister of State Florian Herrmann. The investment, which will create around 250 new jobs, sends a strong signal for Bavaria as a business location – especially given the difficult conditions facing the automotive industry. Success requires innovation and dynamism. thyssenkrupp has found the perfect environment with its partner BMW. Bavaria stands for high-tech and technology: we are number one in start-ups and top universities, home to international tech companies, and have flagship projects such as the Moon Control Center. With the Bavarian High-Tech Agenda, we are investing seven billion euros in future technologies. Engineering and digitalization are our strengths. As the state government, we will continue to focus on the car in the future: we stand for openness to technology and are massively expanding e-mobility and charging infrastructure. However, the end of the combustion engine also needs to be phased out at EU level. All the best and congratulations on your 30th anniversary!”

Dr. Volkmar Dinstuhl, CEO of thyssenkrupp Automotive Technology, said: “A strong supplier industry is essential for a competitive automotive sector in Europe. Resilient supply chains, industrial expertise, and proximity to vehicle production are becoming increasingly important in light of global uncertainties. Especially in today’s challenging market environment, our investment in Allershausen sends a clear signal – for industrial strength, reliability, and a sustainable manufacturing future in Germany and Europe.”

thyssenkrupp built a 19,000-square-meter facility that integrates logistics and automated axle assembly. The company committed a mid-double-digit million euro investment to equip and develop the site. The plant increases manufacturing capacity with integrated production and material handling operations. It will create about 250 technical and production jobs to support axle assembly output. The company also offers apprenticeship programs to train future skilled workers for automotive manufacturing.

The plant will enter series production at a rate of up to 55 axles per hour. Running two shifts, the facility will produce about one axle every minute. Assembly and delivery follow just-in-time and just-in-sequence methods. These processes align axle supply with BMW’s vehicle production in Munich, keeping axle flow synchronized with final vehicle assembly.

thyssenkrupp Automotive Systems GmbH operates the new site as the group’s axle assembly and logistics specialist within the Automotive Technology segment. The opening coincides with the business unit’s 30th anniversary.

Dr. Dominik Gläßer, managing director of thyssenkrupp Automotive Systems, added: “With the new Allershausen plant, we are continuing our systematic development – from our beginnings in Germany to becoming a globally positioned system partner. Bavaria and the greater Munich area are among Europe’s strongest automotive regions. By investing in Allershausen, we are strengthening local value creation while ensuring a robust, customer-oriented supply chain for BMW’s Munich plant.”
