“Topcon “Value Line” Autosteering Solution” has been selected as a winner of the “Good Design Award 2025”, organized by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP).
The design addresses key challenges in Japanese agriculture, including a shrinking workforce, labor demands, and slow adoption of agricultural machinery. It centers on an automatic steering unit that can be added to existing tractors and harvesters used by small-scale farmers, who make up much of Japan’s farming community. Developed through field research and farmer feedback, the product has a steering wheel, few control buttons, and a simplified interface. These make it easy to use for users with limited tech experience. The unit’s low cost and setup make automation accessible to small farms, reducing labor and improving equipment efficiency.
