WESTMINSTER, CO, Mar 9, 2026 – Trimble has partnered with Hyundai to enable upgrades to the Trimble Earthworks 3D grade control platform. This allows civil construction contractors to upgrade from Hyundai 2D grade control technology to Trimble Earthworks 3D grade control. The aftermarket upgrade gives operators access to the Trimble Earthworks 3D platform, including “autos” functionality.

Trimble Earthworks 3D helps operators create smooth, flat or sloped surfaces during excavation work. In “autos” mode, the operator controls the stick while Trimble Earthworks manages the boom and bucket to maintain grade and limit overcut. This approach supports maintain consistent grading accuracy and can reduce the time required to reach target grade.

“A lot of civil contractors start with 2D machine control, which is great for simpler projects or instances where you just need to reach general depth and slope specifications, but upgrading to 3D is also a natural progression as jobs become more complex and users begin to experience the benefits firsthand,” said Scott Crozier, vice president, civil construction at Trimble. “Now, contractors that are currently using 2D systems on select Hyundai models will be able to upgrade to a 3D Earthworks system quickly and easily in the aftermarket, through the Trimble dealer channel.”

In addition to the 3D upgrade functionality, the Hyundai 2D grade system includes virtual fence and payload capabilities that continue to operate after the upgrade.

“We build machines to meet our customers’ toughest expectations, and now more than ever, they expect to be able to use the technology they need to get the job done precisely and profitably,” said Joe Hodges, North American excavator product manager at Hyundai. “We are excited to provide an easy upgrade path from factory 2D grade control to the Earthworks 3D platform. We look forward to inviting our customers in to see and experience these technology enhancements in person at our training center in Carnesville, Georgia or at one of our regional events near you.”
