Trimble Releases Tekla 2026 for BIM and Steel Fabrication

by | Mar 12, 2026

Update adds AI drawing support, connected project data, and new analysis tools across design, detailing, and shop floor workflows

WESTMINSTER, CO, Mar 12, 2026 – Trimble has released the 2026 version of Tekla software for constructible Building Information Modeling (BIM), structural engineering, and steel fabrication management. The update supports data-driven workflows that connect design and construction teams. Tekla 2026 also helps engineers handle complex detailing tasks without switching between separate applications.

Tekla 2026 connects applications across the Tekla portfolio, including Tekla Structures, Tekla Structural Designer, Tekla Tedds, and Tekla PowerFab . The software links drawings, models, and field data across office, shop, and jobsite teams. Users can view project status within 3D models and synchronize project information across connected processes.

Trimble Assistant is integrated into the software to help users access features and troubleshoot issues without leaving the interface. Tekla Structures also includes an early preview of the AI Model and Drawing Assistant (distributed through Trimble Labs). The feature supports modeling operations through natural language prompts during design and detailing.

Tekla Structures 2026: Connected Data Workflow Productivity

  • AI Cloud Fabrication Drawings: A “human in the loop” AI service that uses user-defined drawing libraries from past projects to generate fabrication drawings. It provides suggestions that users review and confirm during setup and cleanup time.
  • Project Settings Management Console: User interface for administrators to manage customized environments and project settings from the cloud. It enables centralized configuration and distributes updated settings to users during a project.
  • Integrated workflows with Trimble Connect common data environment: Property sets, drawing metadata, and status information can be shared across the Trimble ecosystem to support system integration. Teams can manage project data across systems and access this information from their working interface.
  • Simultaneous Model & Drawing Editing with Design Reuse: Allows detailers to work on General Arrangement drawings and the 3D model side by side, with changes reflected in both views. The feature also supports reuse of previous projects during design development and reduce manual rework.
  • Layout Manager “Out of Tolerance” Workflow: Identifies discrepancies between the design model and as-built data (e.g., misaligned anchor bolts), for review before steel parts arrive on site.

Tekla Structural Designer 2026: Consolidating Design Tasks

  • Accurate Center of Rigidity (COR): A new calculation method for seismic design that replaces earlier approximations used in structural analysis.
  • Integrated Portal Frame Design (Eurocode): Adds an integrated portal frame design for industrial low-rise buildings and masonry design tools for North American users.
  • Interoperability: Interoperability with Revit and SketchUp allows architects to exchange project data. Tekla Structures models can also be published to the cloud and imported into Tekla Structural Designer for verification.

Tekla Tedds 2026: Automating Calculations

  • New & Expanded Calculations: For the U.S. market, a new Steel Beam Torsion (AISC360) calculation supports analysis of torsional forces in beam design. For Eurocode users, a Wind Assessment calculation automates wind pressure analysis for building sites.
  • One-Click Access to Tekla Structural Designer LT: Each Tekla Tedds subscription includes access to a starter version of Tekla Structural Designer. Users can perform 3D analysis tasks ( like floor vibration and composite beam design) within the software environment.

Tekla PowerFab 2026: Validating Shop Floor Quality

  • Pre-Shipment Validation: A route validation feature checks whether all manufacturing steps are complete before items are shipped.
  • Shop Floor Focus: New features in PowerFab Go display tasks relevant to each workstation, reducing errors.
  • Sustainability: LEED reporting allow fabricators to track material origin and recycled content content with a single flag, automating a manual documentation process.

“The Tekla 2026 software suite represents a significant leap in how AI and cloud-enabled tools can enhance productivity while maintaining the high levels of accuracy our customers require,” said Jari Heino, VP & GM, BIM and engineering solutions at Trimble. “By syncing the model and the drawing, and providing real-time data exchange, Tekla solutions bring connected insights to every phase of the design-to-construction lifecycle.”
