
MUNICH, Germany and WESTMINSTER, CO, Sep 16, 2026 – Trimble launched the Trimble ST30 smart target, a surveying device that combines optical and subscription-based GNSS functions in one unit. The unit houses a 360-degree prism, an IMU, a GNSS receiver and hardware for automated rod height measurement. Trimble says it is the first smart target on the market with fully integrated, high-accuracy GNSS.
Tilt compensation and automatic rod height measurement are built in. The housing uses magnesium and aluminum, with a protective top bumper and shielded LEDs. Trimble rates the device for daily job site use, including wet conditions.
The target pairs with Trimble’s field, office and cloud software: the Trimble S-, RTS- and SPS-series robotic total stations, Trimble Access, Trimble Siteworks, Trimble FieldLink field software, Trimble Business Center office software and the Trimble Connect common data environment.

Features include:
- Fully adjustable rod height: Automatic rod height measurements remove errors from a forgotten rod height change, along with the rework that follows.
- Prism accuracy: The 360-degree prism holds millimeter-level precision and extends optical workflows into tight-tolerance applications.
- Tilt compensation: Operators no longer watch a level bubble, so they stay on the task and aware of job site hazards. Tilt compensation applies to both total station and GNSS measurements, which speeds topographic and stakeout workflows. It also lets operators measure hard-to-access points with a tilted pole, cut instrument setups and skip manual offset calculations.
- Active tracking and target ID: A patented three-pillar tracking system holds a continuous lock in difficult environments. Active tracking prevents false locks from reflective surfaces. Target ID keeps the total station on the assigned target, and Trimble GeoLock GNSS-assisted technology regains a lost lock.
- Integrated GNSS: Sold as a separate subscription beginning in 2027. It adds GNSS to every station setup and simplifies site calibration and control setup. It also lets users work beyond optical line-of-sight limits.

Availability
The Trimble ST30 will be available to order through Trimble dealers in Q4 2026. Trimble also offers a Trimble Protected Plus+ hardware protection plan covering wear and tear and environmental damage.
