Vectorworks has introduced Morpholio Trace for Business, an enterprise offering designed to help architectural and landscape architectural firms deploy and manage the popular sketching application across their organizations. The announcement follows Vectorworks’ acquisition of Morpholio earlier in 2026, bringing mobile sketching tools closer to its CAD and BIM ecosystem, tells Architosh.
Morpholio Trace runs on tablets such as the Apple iPad and supports Apple Pencil, allowing designers to create sketches, drawings, markups, and annotations. Its integration with Vectorworks helps connect early design exploration with digital modeling workflows.
Previously, Morpholio Trace subscriptions were available exclusively through Apple’s App Store, primarily serving individual designers and smaller teams. Trace for Business introduces centralized purchasing and license management through the Vectorworks Customer Portal, simplifying deployment for larger organizations.
The offering includes business-friendly invoicing and support for mobile device management (MDM). IT administrators can deploy the application within existing enterprise environments while managing access, storage, exports, AI features, and other application settings according to organizational requirements.
Vectorworks emphasizes that these administrative capabilities are intended to preserve the familiar drawing experience while giving firms greater control over software deployment.
The announcement also introduces the first capabilities of Trace Ultra, an upcoming product tier that will expand the application’s role as a vector-based companion to CAD and BIM software.
One notable enhancement increases the maximum number of layers per project from 25 to 50, allowing designers to organize more complex sketches and drawings. Additional Ultra capabilities are scheduled for release throughout 2026, with broader public availability expected later in the year.
Founded in 2011 by four architects, Morpholio developed its applications around the importance of hand drawing in digital design. Its portfolio includes Trace, Board, and Journal.
The enterprise offering extends this philosophy to larger practices, combining intuitive sketching with centralized software administration. For design firms, it provides a more manageable way to incorporate mobile drawing into established architectural workflows without sacrificing creative flexibility.
