FOREST LAKE, MN, Sep 23, 2026 – Velosity has acquired Lucid Labs, combining medical device design, engineering and rapid prototyping with its manufacturing operations. The acquisition extends Velosity’s services from concept development through production and commercialization.
Lucid Labs has worked with medical device original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) for more than 20 years. Its engineers work alongside customers to evaluate designs, refine prototypes and address manufacturing requirements.
“Our goal has always been to accelerate innovation for our customers,” said Dave Hemink, CEO of Velosity. “The addition of Lucid Labs expands our ability to engage earlier, solve complex challenges and support customers throughout the product lifecycle, creating a more connected path to commercialization and a much deeper understanding of strategy and portfolio trajectory.”
Lucid’s rapid prototyping services will expand the capabilities of the Velosity Engineering, Launch and Optimization Lab. Lucid founder and CEO Tim Hillukka will join Velosity as chief innovation officer. He will lead concept development and innovation work across the customer base.

The expanded services include:
- Product development: Concept development, product design support, design optimization and manufacturing readiness.
- Embedded engineering services: Mechanical engineering, design for manufacturability, fixture design, process development and product optimization.
- Rapid prototyping: CNC and Swiss machining, 3D printing, production-quality prototypes, functional prototypes and short-run manufacturing.
These services complement Velosity’s existing tooling, injection molding, precision machining, assembly and packaging operations.
