LAS VEGAS, NV (CONEXPO-CON/AGG), Mar 6, 2026 – Volvo CE has launched the SD70 soil compactor, expanding its soil compaction equipment for construction applications. The 66-inch, 7-ton roller is designed for contractors and rental fleets working on soil compaction tasks. The SD70 delivers the same drum performance as the SD75 in a streamlined design built for cost efficiency.

“The market spoke and we listened. The SD70 is the perfect blend of Volvo quality and smart design for operations where every dollar counts,” said Justin Zupanc, Compaction Product Manager at Volvo CE. “With simplified features, low fuel consumption and strong residual value, the SD70 keeps costs down and uptime high. Durable, reliable and easy to service – all backed up by our Volvo standard lifetime frame guarantee – this is a solid investment for value-driven operations.”

Boosting Performance and Efficiency

The SD70 soil compactor uses the same drum design as the SD75. The drum control system supports multiple frequencies, dual amplitudes and centrifugal force settings for a job variety of job conditions. A 74-horsepower Volvo Tier 4 Final engine provides high torque at low rpm during soil compaction work.

The engine includes passive regeneration feature that cleans filters automatically without operator action. The operator platform provides visibility around the machine, and fleets can add an optional canopy sunshade.

Supporting Reliability and Uptime

The SD70 soil compactor shares key components with other Volvo soil compaction machines, including the drum, engine, axle and motors. The design provides ground-level access for routine service tasks. Volvo offers a lifetime frame guarantee for the machine frame.

Owners can monitor the compactor 24/7 using CareTrack telematics or ActiveCare Direct through Volvo’s Uptime Center. The systems deliver weekly performance reports and maintenance alerts to reduce downtime.
