LAS VEGAS, NV (CONEXPO-CON/AGG), Mar 9, 2026 – Volvo Penta presented internal combustion engines, battery-electric drivelines, energy storage systems and alternative-fuel engines such as natural gas and renewable diesel at CONEXPO 2026. The technologies target off-highway equipment and digital infrastructure, including mining, construction and data center operations. The portfolio supports equipment uptime and operational performance in demanding industrial applications.

Powering the Digital Infrastructure Sector

Volvo Penta displayed the G17 natural gas engine at CONEXPO 2026. The engine operates on natural gas and renewable natural gas and targets sectors such as data centers. With global data center construction projected to increase sixfold by 2027, demand is rising for construction-site power and backup power once facilities become operational. Volvo Penta addresses these needs by supplying engines for equipment such as excavators and mobile power units used in rental fleets. The company also provides engines and power solutions for data center backup systems. Its portfolio includes Tier 4 Final and Stage V-certified engines, natural gas systems, renewable fuel compatibility and battery-based energy storage systems.

“Reliable power is critical in every aspect for a data center, from building the facility to keeping it online,” says Anna Müller, president of Volvo Penta and member of Volvo Group management. “Volvo Penta systems deliver the heavy-duty performance, fuel efficiency and reliability required for high-demand construction environments, while also reinforcing our role as a trusted provider of data center backup power.”

Industrial Applications and Customer Collaboration

At CONEXPO 2026, Volvo Penta used an interactive digital table to show how its power technologies integrate across different applications. Underground mining was presented as one example.

“By working closely with OEMs, we deliver power-dense, low-emissions, fully certified solutions that maximize uptime and productivity. In just 15 years, this focus has earned us approximately 30% of the available global market share.”

Lifecycle Services and Connectivity

Volvo Penta said its industrial activities include services, engineering support and a global service network alongside engine supply. The company works with OEMs and operators from system integration through aftermarket support. At CONEXPO, a connectivity display demonstrated Volvo Penta Connect, that provides fleet operators with performance monitoring and maintenance planning tools. Volvo Penta participated alongside Volvo Group companies Volvo Construction Equipment, Volvo Trucks and Volvo Financial Services.
