DAYTON, OH, Mar 30, 2026 – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mobile District has awarded Woolpert a two-year, $49.9 million contract to support its Interagency Airborne Technologies for Lidar, Analysis, and Surveying (I-ATLAS) center. Woolpert has supported the I-ATLAS program since 2010. I-ATLAS conducts airborne lidar bathymetry operations and research for coastal mapping and charting across federal agencies, including USACE, the U.S. Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the U.S. Geological Survey, the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, and the U.S. Coast Guard. Since 1998, I-ATLAS has acquired emergency response data following hurricanes such as Katrina, Sandy, Maria, and Florence.

Woolpert will provide operations, maintenance, and technical support for the I-ATLAS mission under the new contract. The scope includes sensor operation, data processing, and development of products from airborne lidar data, along with studies, technical reports, design work, and sensor upgrades.

The program’s coastal and inland waterway data supports dredging, erosion tracking, environmental monitoring, sediment management, volumetric analysis, coastal flooding and navigation. Federal agencies use the data to manage navigation and flood risk projects, assess storm and disaster impacts, track debris and vegetation changes, update nautical charts, and support infrastructure planning and relief efforts.

“We are honored to extend our long-standing support of USACE and the I-ATLAS mission,” said Woolpert geospatial program director Mark Brooks. “I-ATLAS remains a vital national resource, and we look forward to contributing to the center’s next phase of impact across the U.S. and globally as each partner continues their commitment to advancing airborne lidar bathymetry and its data uses.”

The contract is underway and will conclude in March 2028.
