JENA, Germany, Sep 2, 2026 – ZEISS Medical Technology has expanded the DORC EVA NEXUS ophthalmic surgical system with a dedicated cataract configuration. The configuration debuts at the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) congress in London. It launches in select European countries in September 2026, followed by global availability.
The cataract configuration adds a grade-selection feature with up to four programmable pre-sets for phaco, aspiration and irrigation. Surgeons can match a pre-set to each surgical step and cataract grade, switching between them via the footswitch or on-screen controls. The system is part of the ZEISS Cataract Workflow portfolio.

“With the newly configured DORC EVA NEXUS cataract solution, ZEISS’ advanced technology is redefining how cataract surgeons can operate in the OR – designed for streamlined performance, stability and control – supporting surgical decisions and procedural precision,” says Dominik Beck, PhD, head of posterior surgery business sector at ZEISS Medical Technology.
“Having relied on its predecessor, DORC EVA, in my cataract surgery cases for more than a decade, I recently began using DORC EVA NEXUS, the latest generation of the platform, and have already experienced the benefits of its innovations in my everyday surgical practice. DORC EVA NEXUS benefits everyone in the operating room; my staff and I feel more in control during surgery, which contributes to an improved patient experience and surgical outcomes,” says Dr. Marcus Drodofsky, cataract surgeon, Augenärzte Osnabrück (Germany).
The DORC EVA NEXUS solution is built around three components:
- VacuFlow VTi pump – Powered by Valve Timing Intelligence, it delivers pulsation-free flow or fast, responsive vacuum.
- SMART IOP – It automatically compensates for pressure losses to maintain constant intraocular pressure. ZEISS says it provides stable, lower anterior chamber pressure with up to 73% higher responsiveness, including during post-occlusion breaks.
- EVA SURE TOUCH handpiece – It pairs with the EVA EQUIPHACO line of phaco tips with fitted, color-coded sleeves. A wireless Dual Linear footswitch gives surgeons control of aspiration and ultrasound.
