BOSTON, MA, May 14, 2026 – PTC integrated Onshape with Altium to connect Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design and mechanical design inside the product development process. The Onshape Altium Connector brings PCB designs from Altium into Onshape and keeps electrical and mechanical changes synchronized across both systems.

Electrical and mechanical teams often lose time when PCB updates move through emailed files, exported data and separate design versions. Those handoffs can delay reviews and leave board-fit issues or connector misalignment unresolved until later development stages.

“This collaboration marks an important milestone for cloud-native engineering. By expanding our direct ECAD-MCAD CoDesign technology, we are enabling a truly cohesive connection between leading cloud-based design platforms,” said Nikolay Ponomarenko, vice president of Altium R&D. “In a complex, fast-paced industry, cloud data enables engineers to collaborate in real-time within a unified workflow across design domains. This eliminates all risks imposed by manually sharing files. This level of synchronization keeps teams aligned from the very beginning of the design process and lays the foundation for even deeper collaboration in the future.”

Key benefits of the Onshape Altium Connector include:

  • Runs in the cloud without file conversions, downloads or manual data transfers
  • Synchronizes electrical and mechanical design changes across Onshape and Altium
  • Helps teams check whether circuit boards fit correctly inside enclosures earlier in development
  • Keeps electrical history in Altium and mechanical history in Onshape, with connected version control
  • Let’s stakeholders review, comment on and markup designs from a browser without software installation

“Connecting electrical and mechanical design in real-time is a critical step toward fully digital product development,” said David Katzman, general manager of Onshape and Arena at PTC. “By bringing these workflows together in a single cloud-native environment, we give teams continuous access to a shared, real-time product definition so they can move faster, stay aligned, and focus on building better products.”

PTC’s Intelligent Product Lifecycle strategy uses product data as the foundation for design, manufacturing and lifecycle workflows. Onshape and the company’s software portfolio organize product data, apply it across enterprise processes and bring AI into product lifecycle work. PTC says this approach can help manufacturers and product companies reduce time to market, improve product quality, manage product complexity and address regulatory and compliance requirements.
