KYOCERA AVX has developed the world’s first1 compact, high-capacity multilayer ceramic chip capacitor (MLCC) with an industry-leading capacitance value of 47µF in the 0402-inch size2 (1.0mm x 0.5mm). Mass production is scheduled to start in December 2025.

The growth of AI technology is directly proportional to the demand for smartphones with generative AI and AI servers. As data processing technology advances, the number of integrated components increases. This leads to a need for ultra-compact parts that fit efficiently in limited board space. There is a push for smaller sizes and higher capacitance for multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) commonly found in these devices. At the same time, components should be reliable in extreme temperatures due to heat generation and other factors.

The ‘0402-inch size’2 MLCC is the commonly used size for smartphones and wearable devices. KYOCERA AVX has developed a capacitor with thinner dielectric and internal electrodes, increasing capacitance per unit by approximately 2.1 times compared to the previous 22μF model of the same size. The improvement helps achieve the required capacitance while reducing the number of components. The capacitor also offers heat resistance up to +105°C, ensuring reliability in high-temperature environments such as AI servers.

KYOCERA AVX will continue to advance product development in its electronic components business to meet market needs, contributing to the miniaturization and enhanced functionality of devices such as smartphones and AI servers.
