BOSTON, MA, Apr 16, 2025 – PTC has introduced two additions to its cloud-native Onshape CAD and product data management (PDM) platform, the first is Onshape AI Advisor, an AI-powered assistant that helps designers increase productivity and make quality decisions during the design process. The second is Onshape Government, a version of Onshape built for U.S. government agencies and defense contractors. It meets security and compliance rules like International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR), making it secure for handling sensitive design data.
Onshape AI Advisor helps users speed up design work. It offers AI-based tips for CAD tasks, PDM processes, and platform capabilities. Built on Amazon Bedrock, it supports teams moving from legacy CAD, optimizes designs, and improves efficiency.
Onshape Government is a version of Onshape designed to comply with ITAR and EAR regulations. It is hosted on AWS GovCloud (U.S.) and is intended for U.S. government agencies, defense contractors, and organizations working on regulated projects. It also offers collaboration tools, version control, and accessibility features consistent with the broader Onshape platform.
“Onshape Government and Onshape AI Advisor are the latest examples of us delivering on our mission of helping customers of all sizes and across all industries transform their product development processes,” said David Katzman, general manager of Onshape and Arena, PTC. “We’re pleased to extend the benefits of cloud-native CAD and PDM to companies operating in the regulated aerospace and defense market, and we continue to make Onshape one of the most accessible and user-friendly platforms, now with AI-driven assistance throughout the design process.”
Onshape is the industry’s only cloud-native CAD and PDM platform. Companies such as Trek Bikes, Garmin, BOA, K2, Garrett Motion, and AURA AERO use Onshape to design products. As part of its three-week release cycle, Onshape has added features like CAM Studio, Render Studio, PCB Studio, Onshape Simulation, new surfacing, modeling analysis, mixed modeling capabilities, and the Onshape-Arena connection for an all-in-one CAD-PDM-PLM experience. In education, from K-12 through university, Onshape generates more than 1.5 million new signups each year. Universities including The Ohio State University, Duke University, and the University of Southern California teach Onshape as part of their engineering curricula.
