LG CNS, NYCEDC Launch EV Charging at BAT

by | Apr 21, 2025

Electric vehicle chargers and a new app are rolling out to make getting around easier. It’s a step toward building smarter, cleaner cities that work better for everyone.

SEOUL, South Korea, Apr 21, 2025 – LG CNS is working with New York City to support smart city initiatives by installing electric vehicle chargers at the Brooklyn Army Terminal (BAT). In partnership with Boston-based EV charging startup Matcha, the effort aims to make sustainable transportation accessible. The chargers are operational and will remain available through December 2025.

LG CNS is developing a mobile app that will show real-time updates on electric vehicle charging spots and other key details to support city travel. The app will help residents and visitors in managing EV’s with improved access and reliability.

The installation of EV chargers at BAT marks the beginning of LG CNS’s engagement in New York. With a long-term plan to support green energy and digital transformation, LG CNS plays a key role in shaping the city’s future. The NYC-LG CNS partnership invests in both infrastructure and technology, advancing New York’s role in smart city development.

Beyond EV infrastructure, LG CNS plans to help New York become a tech leader in the U.S. The company is exploring innovations in AI, smart surveillance, and data-driven urban solutions. By integrating these technologies, LG CNS seeks to improve citywide efficiency, safety, and sustainability.

LG CNS plans to install Energy Storage Systems (ESS) to help stabilize NYC’s electricity market. By implementing ESS solutions, LG CNS will increase the city’s energy stability, improve grid efficiency, and support the shift to sustainable power sources.

LG CNS will join New York City Economic Development Corp.’s (NYCEDC) next cohort of Pilots at BAT, a program that allows companies to test and scale their innovative technologies in live environments. Due to the success of the initial pilots at BAT cohorts, the program is expanding to NYCEDC’s MADE Bush Terminal in Sunset Park. NYCEDC’s Sunset Park district provides over 200 acres of waterfront space in Brooklyn to support emerging climate solutions in green economy sectors like resiliency, mobility and buildings.

In October 2023, Mayor Adams signed a Memorandum of Understanding with LG CNS CEO Shin-Gyoon Hyun and James Kim, chairman and CEO of the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea. This agreement promotes Korean investments in New York City. The NYCEDC business development team worked with LG CNS to enter the NYC ecosystem by identifying opportunities and guiding them through the site selection process.
