ZURICH, Switzerland, May 27, 2025 – ABB has signed an agreement to acquire BrightLoop, a French company specializing in advanced power electronics. The acquisition is intended to support ABB’s electrification efforts in industrial mobility and marine propulsion domains. BrightLoop’s power conversion systems will add to ABB’s current product range, in applications like construction machinery, mining equipment, electric ferries, and offshore vessels. The transaction is expected to close in Q3 2025, pending regulatory approvals and standard closing procedures.

As part of the agreement, ABB will acquire an initial 93% controlling interest in BrightLoop, and expects to acquire the remaining 7% in 2028. BrightLoop’s management will continue to lead under ABB.

BrightLoop’s converters are designed for use in environments with limited space, weight and reliability requirements, making them suitable for applications in industrial vehicles and marine systems. In these applications, electrification improves energy efficiency and reduces fuel consumption, maintenance needs, and emissions. This results in a lower total cost of ownership over the lifecycle of the vehicle or vessel. BrightLoop uses silicon carbide and gallium nitride in its semiconductor domain. This approach supports a reliable system with efficiency.

“This acquisition is a strategic leap forward in our mission to help transport industries operate leaner and cleaner,” said Edgar Keller, president of ABB’s traction division. “BrightLoop’s software-defined power platform and expertise in high-performance applications will allow us to deliver even more value to our customers as they transition to cleaner, smarter energy systems.”

“We are proud and excited to join the ABB family. With our shared passion for power conversion, we’re ready to support the upcoming wave of electrification in large-scale production,” said Florent Liffran, CEO BrightLoop. “Together with the team, and thanks to ABB’s industrial and commercial strength, we will amplify our commitment to delivering outstanding products to fast-growing markets. We’re excited for what lies ahead, and deeply committed to creating value for our customers as part of ABB.”

By bringing in BrightLoop’s technology and team, ABB will expand its installed base, strengthen its digital tools, and accelerate product development for its electrification line. ABB will keep BrightLoop’s engineering and manufacturing in France, with plans to grow operations worldwide. Together, the companies will advance cleaner and sustainable power conversion.
