SANTA CRUZ, CA, Nov 4, 2025 – Joby Aviation has begun manufacturing propeller blades at its Dayton, OH facility, marking a step forward in expanding in-house aircraft production. The work adds a conforming flight component to Joby’s capabilities and builds on testing and assembly operations in OH, reinforcing Dayton’s role in aviation industry.

“Dayton gives us the resources, talent, and speed to scale one of the most technically demanding parts of our aircraft,” said Eric Allison, chief product officer at Joby. “Joby’s propeller blades are a key part of what makes our aircraft special – central to its low acoustic profile and the result of a decade of complex engineering.”

“Together with our partners at the Dayton Development Coalition and the DeWine-Tressel Administration, we are proud to welcome Joby Aviation’s decision to establish Dayton as its blade production hub, building on its major aircraft manufacturing commitment announced in 2023,” said JobsOhio president and CEO J.P. Nauseef. “This new investment underscores Joby’s confidence in Ohio’s aviation legacy, innovative talent, and advanced manufacturing strength, and reinforces Ohio’s role in shaping the future of flight.”

Joby Aviation’s propeller blades are built for quiet flight through carbon fabrication methods using a skilled workforce. Each aircraft requires 30 blades – five per propeller – and annual output could reach 15,000 blades. Conforming blades that meet all FAA inspection and certification standards are expected next month, with installation on flight test aircraft planned for next year.

Joby’s Dayton facility is designed to support production of up to 500 aircraft a year. The company selected Dayton for its manufacturing base, experienced labor and proximity to suppliers. Nearly every component needed for blade production can be sourced within 30 minutes of the facility.

The new work will support Joby’s type and production certification programs and expand capacity for future operations. After refining its manufacturing processes in CA with Toyota, Joby is applying the same learnings to scale production in Ohio. The Dayton site is planned as the company’s primary location for blade manufacturing, supported by space, resources and workforce. The expansion links operations in CA and OH as Joby prepares for commercial production.

Joby will host an event at its Dayton facility on Nov. 10, 2025, as production begins. The event will bring together officials, partners, and employees.
