SHANGHAI, China, Apr 22, 2025 – Marelli will participate in Auto Shanghai 2025, where it will showcase technologies developed through its strategic platform-based approach aimed at simplifying hardware development and accelerating deployment. The company will debut LeanEnergy battery management system, LeanSuspension solution, and a new ProDisplay technology at the event.
A tiered platform approach, enabling speed-to-market for carmakers
Marelli’s platform-based products use a pre-developed technological base for up to 70%, allowing carmakers to customize features. This approach helps automakers innovate and speed up development. The company offers three platform levels—Lean, Pro, and Elite—to provide scalable solutions that fit different market needs.
Lean platform solutions are designed with minimal components to meet performance needs. They focus on sustainability, cost-effectiveness, and being ready for production. Products developed on lean platforms feature reduced weight, simpler designs, and improved efficiency. The lean platform is intended for base trims, entry-level vehicles, and brands.
Focused on scalability, the Pro platform offers versions of products that are affordable without compromising quality or functionality. These solutions address the evolving demands of electric vehicles and various vehicle segments.
The Elite platform represents the pinnacle of innovation. It features industry-first, high-end, and unique technologies designed for the premium and luxury segments.
A special focus at Auto Shanghai will be on the Lean platform, with the launch of two technologies in the propulsion and chassis domains.

New LeanEnergy battery management system
LeanEnergy is a “Battery Management System” based on a centralized architecture, where all cells are connected to the same board. This configuration supports battery packs up to 108 cells, making it suitable for mid-sized packs in MHEV, PHEV, and small BEVs. The platform includes both high-voltage and low-voltage circuits on the same board, separated by an isolation barrier to maintain safety and efficiency. Since 2010, Marelli has mass-produced these cost-effective solutions, showing their commitment and expertise in battery management systems for xEVs.
New LeanSuspension technology
LeanSuspension is the next step in Marelli’s Smart Damping Control (SDC) semi-active shock absorbers. This technology uses a single electronic valve to control semi-active damping. It delivers performance similar to a dual-valve smart damping system.

This solution regulates both the rebound and compression phases, reducing response times compared to traditional systems. The benefits include lower complexity, weight, and cost, particularly when compared to dual smart damping solutions. The LeanSuspension solution shows Marelli’s commitment to advancing suspension technology and helps automakers improve safety, comfort, and agility.
New application for ProDisplay: hidden integration behind the door panel
Marelli will showcase a version of its ProDisplay with hidden display capability applied for the first time behind a door panel. This allows the display to remain invisible until activated, creating a sleek, minimalist look. This innovation merges advanced technology with interior design, improving driver interaction through intuitive functionality. By presenting the display in an unexpected location, new standards of in-vehicle displays are set.

Another application of the ProDisplay showcased at Marelli’s booth is the Large Size Display, which transforms in-car entertainment with its expansive central infotainment and passenger screens. Designed for clarity and interactivity, it captivates passengers by delivering vibrant visuals and smooth connectivity, creating an immersive and experience.
“Fast Forward. Forward Fast.” Concept
As previously announced, Marelli’s presence at Auto Shanghai 2025 is featured by the theme “Fast Forward. Forward Fast.” The booth will offer a curated journey through four distinct zones, each showing how the company speeds up market delivery for customers. The first area, called the ‘Momentum Lab,’ focuses on Marelli’s approach to innovation using Minimum Viable Products (MVPs). Next, the ‘Velocity Zone‘ is dedicated to Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) enablement tools, explaining how Marelli supports scalable architectures in a flexible and affordable way. In the ‘Acceleration Lane,’ Marelli highlights its hardware development platform approach. Finally, the ‘Instant Impact‘ area displays technologies ready for deployment.
