Michael Baker Names Devendra Kumar as CIO

A seasoned tech leader with 30 years of experience is now driving AI adoption, digital transformation, and data security. The goal is to align IT strategy with real business outcomes.

PITTSBURGH, PA, May 6, 2025 – Michael Baker International has announced that the firm has named Devendra Kumar chief information officer (CIO).  In this role, Mr. Kumar will be responsible for overseeing the firm’s information technology (IT) strategy and ensuring that Michael Baker’s technology infrastructure aligns with the company’s goals. He will lead the Information Technology Services (ITS) team and continue to drive the firm’s use of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools while planning and implementing digital transformation initiatives. Additionally, he will prioritize data security and compliance efforts across Michael Baker’s business.

Mr. Kumar brings nearly 30 years of experience in IT, with a focus on applying digital technologies to improve business operations and develop practical solutions. He joined Michael Baker International in 2022 and most recently served as interim CIO. During his time at the company, he led initiatives such as creating an AI-based proposals chatbot and building user communities for Power BI and M365 Copilot. Prior to this, he worked at Black & Veatch Corporation as head of the digital office, where he was involved in defining digital practices and delivering digital products to support business functions. His responsibilities included managing projects related to customer relationship management (CRM), modernizing Oracle ERP systems, and supporting finance and HR process enhancements.

Mr. Kumar holds a Bachelor of Technology degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.
