LONDON, UK, July 14, 2025, 2025 – Protium has selected AVEVA to provide the software foundation for its digital industrial intelligence platform. The platform will support the development and operation of Protium’s green hydrogen projects by improving data integration, process visibility and system efficiency.
Protium has used AVEVA solutions to reduce staff time spent on process simulation by 30% and improve system reliability by 15%. The technology has also supported efforts to identify opportunities to reduce maintenance costs by 15%. Protium aims to save 256,000 tons of CO2 annually and expects AVEVA solutions to further reduce emissions by 5-10% through improvements in process design and utility consumption.
“Our collaboration with Protium brilliantly illustrates AVEVA’s commitment to enabling industrial sustainability,” comments Caspar Herzberg, CEO, AVEVA. “Leading the transition to net zero through emerging technologies requires flexible digital infrastructure. The data platform we’ve developed for Protium is tailored to manage a resilient and agile digital infrastructure in a cost-effective manner, leveraging the full potential of Protium’s industrial intelligence.”
“Green hydrogen is a key stepping stone in the UK’s ambition to cut CO2 emissions by 1 million tons a year by 2030. Achieving this goal cost-effectively and reliably will depend on building the right infrastructure and operating it efficiently. By working closely with AVEVA, we’ve developed the right set of digital tools to enable Protium to deliver green hydrogen at scale – critical at this point when we are about to open a second hydrogen production plant and growing our project portfolio,” adds Jon Constable, COO, Protium.
Protium designs, develops, finances, owns, and operates green hydrogen systems for clients in multiple sectors to help achieve net-zero energy emissions. The company will use its digital industrial intelligence platform with AVEVA software to collect, organize, analyze, and display performance and operations data within a digital twin. This digital twin can identify faults, perform error analysis, and provide the team visibility across Protium’s operations. AVEVA’s tools support effectual monitoring and control, verification of electricity sources, optimization of plant performance, reduced downtime, and improved system reliability.

About Protium
Protium Green Solutions, established in 2019 and headquartered in London, develops and operates end-to-end green hydrogen energy systems for industrial and transport sectors. The company focuses on infrastructure planning, hydrogen production, compression and logistics, offering a vertically integrated hydrogen-as-a-service model across the UK and Europe. Its Pioneer™ series electrolyzer units – Pioneer 1 and Pioneer 2 – support modular hydrogen production with integrated digital controls and monitoring. These systems use AVEVA software for real-time data collection, simulation and analytics, contributing to improved equipment reliability and operational efficiency. As of early 2025, Protium has raised approximately £31 million in Series B funding and reports annual revenues between $10 million and $15 million. The company’s current project pipeline is expected to support over 500 megawatts of renewable energy capacity and could enable annual CO₂ reductions of up to 256,000 tons. Protium’s approach aligns with decarbonization goals and supports scalable hydrogen adoption across its target industries.
