RS Offers Banner Engineering’s B25 Detection Sensor

by | Jun 20, 2025

Wide beam sensor enables detection of small and irregular packages at distances up to 2 meters. Its adjustable settings and IO-Link interface support accurate sortation in material handling, logistics and packaging systems.

FORT WORTH, TX, June 20, 2025 – RS offers Banner Engineering’s new B25 wide beam sensor. This industrial photoelectric sensor is built for detection across a wide beam, helping guide packages in material handling, logistics, and packaging applications where accurate positioning is required.

The global material handling, logistics, and packaging industries are experiencing substantial growth. Valued at $1.24 trillion in 2024, the global packaging industry is projected to grow to a value of $1.69 trillion by 2034. Similarly, the global material handling and logistics industry is projected to grow from a valuation of $3.93 trillion in 2024 to $5.95 trillion by 2030. Accurate package positioning from filling through delivery is critical to meeting the demand in logistics and packaging. The B25 wide beam sensor is designed to support this process by providing consistent and reliable detection.

Banner’s new B25 wide beam sensor detects the leading edges of targets as thin as 3mm within its wide 25mm beam, regardless of shape, position, or material. It detects targets made of dark, shiny, translucent, as well as those with inconsistent edges like folds, holes, or open flaps, which can cause competing sensors to switch on and off repeatedly, or chatter, and generate a noisy, unstable signal. As such, the B25 is ideal for detecting packages like mailers or polybags, improving the precision control of package flows, and enhancing sortation efficiency.

The photoelectric sensor also features a design engineered to make setup, installation, commissioning, and maintenance quick and easy. Users can configure the sensor with a single pushbutton, a remote input wire, or an IO-Link interface. With another simple button press, they can teach the sensor to ignore the effects of belt flutter and seams. The B25 lets users adjust sensitivity levels to help detect challenging targets. Built-in LED lights show how much light targets block and display the device’s status. The sensor housing has channels at the bottom for routing cables, keeping them organized, regardless of how the sensor is mounted.

The B25 wide beam sensor supports a detection range up to 2m (6.6’), utilizes a 10–30V DC supply voltage, offers push-pull with IO-Link and PNP outputs, and features a 100mm (6”) PVC-jacketed cable terminated with a four-pin M12 quick-disconnect connector.
