Sensirion Launches SCD43 CO2 Sensor for HVAC Air Quality

A carbon dioxide sensor launches for indoor air quality, measuring up to 5,000 ppm and complying with key building standards for energy management and environmental monitoring

Sensirion has launched the SCD43 CO₂ sensor, designed for indoor air quality monitoring in buildings and HVAC systems. The SCD43 measures CO₂ levels in systems used for energy management, environmental monitoring, and user comfort.

The SCD43 achieves an accuracy of ±(30 ppm + 3% of the measured value). It complies with building standards, including ANSI/ASHRAE 62.1-2022 draft addendum d, California Title 24, RESET Grade B, and WELL v2. The sensor measures CO₂ concentrations up to 5,000 ppm. It supports single-shot operation, includes SHT4x humidity and temperature sensing for signal compensation. The device is based on Sensirion’s SCD4x platform, uses photoacoustic NDIR technology, a common method for CO₂ detection. It comes in a 10.1 by 10.1 by 6.5 mm³ package, SMD solderable and tape-and-reel ready.

The sensor includes on-chip self-calibration, drift compensation, and multiple power modes. It uses a digital I²C interface connecting the device to host controllers. The package fits space- and power-limited electronic designs.

The SCD43 is used in HVAC systems and indoor air quality devices, including thermostats and air purifiers. In these applications, the sensor monitors CO₂ levels to maintain healthy indoor environments.
