ZUG, Switzerland, June 10, 2025 – Siemens Smart Infrastructure, Cadolto Datacenter GmbH, and Legrand Data Center Solutions have developed a modular edge data center. The design focuses on providing a scalable and sustainable solution that can be deployed optimally.

Rising demand for AI and edge computing requires scalable, efficient infrastructure. This modular data center provides an integrated solution that can be configured, installed, expanded, and relocated to meet evolving needs. Unlike containerized data centers, this solution uses customizable, prefabricated modules that can be adapted to specific operational requirements. Deployment timelines range from six to 12 months. The data center supports workloads from basic processing to high-density, AI-driven computing. Siemens integrates its suite of Smart Infrastructure technologies – from medium- and low-voltage power distribution, to building automation, fire safety, and physical security systems. Optional maintenance contracts and connection to a 24/7 emergency and service control center complete the solution.

Siemens acts as both product provider and integrator to coordinate system interaction, reduce interface complexity, and support deployment. With Siemens Financial Services providing flexible financing and rental models, businesses can scale up infrastructure without upfront capital investment. Cadolto Datacenter acts as manufacturer and general contractor of the modular edge data center, delivering the prefabricated modular building with integrated climate control. Legrand Data Center Solutions brings its expertise in IT white space infrastructure – from racks and structured cabling to Power Distribution Units (PDUs) and Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems.

“With digital transformation accelerating across every industry, our customers need infrastructure that moves as fast as they do,” said Ciaran Flanagan, global head of data center solutions & services at Siemens AG. “This solution offers all the performance of a traditional data center, but with the agility to scale quickly, tailored to our customers’ specific needs. When ramping up capacity, it’s just a case of plugging it in.”

The data centers are equipped and designed for energy efficiency, suitable for both permanent and temporary use. They can be deployed in various settings, including secure high-performance computing for pharmaceuticals, temporary test setups in automotive, space-limited offices, or disaster recovery situations. “IT-ready” rental models allow fast deployment without initial expenditure, making them suitable for temporary IT facilities, laboratory setups, or other short-term infrastructure requirements.

Each modular data center unit is factory-built, ready to operate, reducing on-site disruption and allowing live upgrades without downtime. With approximately 30 percent fewer CO₂ emissions during construction, a 90 percent recycling rate, and reusable components, it’s a future-forward approach to sustainable digital infrastructure.
