ZUG, Switzerland, 18 June, 2025 – Siemens Smart Infrastructure has expanded its collaboration with AcegasApsAmga, an Italian DSO. The new project, based on Siemens’ Gridscale X platform, will provide end-to-end visibility of the power grid in the Municipality of Trieste. This oversight plays a key role in advancing Trieste’s electrification strategy, which targets lower pollution level from the busy Port of Trieste.
AcegasApsAmga is developing a digital model of Trieste’s power grid to handle congestion issues arising from distributed energy resources (DERs) and the energy demands at the port. Siemens’ Gridscale X software will help the DSO maintain a steady power supply for docked ships. The port moves over 70 million tons of cargo each year, which makes it critical for energy needs.
Siemens and AcegasApsAmga Collaboration

Siemens and AcegasApsAmga have worked together for more than 100 years. The Italian DSO uses Siemens’ SCADA system and ADMS features to optimize grid operations. With Gridscale X, the partnership supports Trieste’s goal to reduce carbon emissions. The software simulates how the grid will perform, spots congestion areas, and calculates the energy needed to solve these issues. This helps keep the grid stable and supports Trieste’s plans for electrification and lower carbon output.
“As the power grid increases in complexity, we need to embrace digitalization to optimize its performance and resilience,” said Sabine Erlinghagen, CEO of Siemens Grid Software. “Collaborating with the Italian DSO, AcegasApsAmga, presents a key opportunity for the utility to leverage Siemens’ digital twin technology to simulate, monitor, and manage energy flows in real time, ensuring efficient operations and supporting sustainability goals.”
“Working together with Siemens, we aim to gain critical visibility over the grid to proactively identify potential congestion points and calculate the energy needed to mitigate issues. Using Gridscale X, we can do this in an efficient and reliable manner, ensuring there are no disruptions to Trieste’s port operations,” said Carlo Andriolo, CEO of AcegasApsAmga.
About Gridscale X

Gridscale X is modular software designed for autonomous grid management. It is a part of Siemens Xcelerator, an open platform that helps customers with digital transformation at scale. The Gridscale X platform supports visibility in low-voltage networks. By utilizing smart meter data, the platform detects outages, shows grid congestion and provides actionable information using advanced analytics.
