NUREMBERG, Germany, May 27, 2025 – Siemens and TURN2X have announced a global partnership to support the scale-up of renewable natural gas (RNG) production through a technological collaboration. The agreement is based on the growing importance of RNG in cutting emissions from industries where electrification is not practical. By combining TURN2X’s methanation process with Siemens’ expertise in process control and industrial operations, the collaboration aims to improve efficiency, reliability, and scalability in RNG plant deployment. This move reflects a shift toward using existing gas networks for low-carbon fuels where electrification isn’t feasible.
TURN2X specializes in producing climate-neutral methane by combining green hydrogen with CO₂ taken from bioethanol plants, to create a renewable alternative to natural gas. By joining with Siemens’ advanced technology portfolio, the collaboration aims to scale up TURN2X’s production capabilities while optimizing efficiency across the company’s operations.
“The collaboration with TURN2X is an example of how Siemens technologies can accelerate innovative solutions for clean energy,” said Axel Lorenz, CEO of process automation at Siemens. “We’re making an important contribution to the energy transition by helping advance promising concepts to the industrial level with our expertise and our portfolio in automation and digitalization.”
Dr. Dominik Schollenberger, CTO at TURN2X, said: “As a growing company in the renewable natural gas sector, our greatest challenge is scaling production while maintaining operational excellence. Siemens’ technology enables us to operate our plants remotely with unprecedented efficiency, which is crucial for our business model of securing long-term profitability from day one. This partnership gives us the technological foundation to rapidly expand our production capacity and meet the increasing market demand.”
Under the agreement, Siemens will be the preferred technology supplier for TURN2X, providing a set of solutions from Siemens Xcelerator portfolio. The collaboration will focus on three core areas. First, Siemens will support process optimization through automation and instrumentation designed to meet the specific needs of TURN2X’s green methane production. Second, the use of digital twins and energy management solutions will help improve remote operations and overall plant efficiency. Third, the partnership will address long-term scalability by applying standardized development practices and strengthening cybersecurity. This approach helps TURN2X scale production while maintaining operational reliability.

About TURN2X GmbH
TURN2X GmbH, based in Munich, Germany, is a clean technology company founded in 2022 that develops and operates renewable natural gas (RNG) plants. Its process combines green hydrogen with biogenic CO₂ using a patented methanation technology to produce synthetic methane compatible with existing gas infrastructure. TURN2X focuses on decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors such as maritime transport, heavy industry (including steel, glass, and ceramics), and utility-scale energy. The company launched its first commercial plant in Miajadas, Spain, in March 2024. This facility operates without subsidies and has secured long-term offtake agreements for 100% of its output. In May 2025, TURN2X partnered with Siemens to scale production through digitalization and automation. The company employs between 11 and 50 people and has raised over €25 million in funding. While annual revenue figures are not publicly disclosed, TURN2X is targeting a goal to replace 10% of Germany’s fossil natural gas consumption with RNG by 2030.
